Prep Volleyball Playoff Report for Saturday, Nov. 6

BRACKETS

Eight area schools punched their ticket to Lafayette and the LHSAA state volleyball tournament with victories in the regional round of the playoffs Friday.

In Division I, No. 3 Mount Carmel Academy defeated No. 19 Comeaux 25-11, 25-13, 25-17.

Makayla Page and Olivia Stant each put away 11 kills and had two blocks for the Cubs while Ella Mauterer had eight kills, six digs, four blocks and two aces and Lindsey Wickersham finished with seven kills, 20 assists, 16 digs and four blocks. Nola Sevin had 28 digs while Peyton Ponstein finished with 17 digs. Emery Mayer contributed 17 assists and seven digs.

Mount Carmel (28-10) moves on to the quarterfinals in Lafayette next Thursday to face the winner of No. 6 Terrebonne and No. 22 Baton Rouge, who play today.

In Division II, No. 8 St. Scholastica moved on with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 win over No. 9 Madison Prep.

The Doves (19-15) advance to Lafayette to battle the winner of No. 1 St. Thomas More and No. 17 Cecilia, who play today.

No. 3 Ben Franklin dismissed No. 14 Liberty 25-10, 25-7, 25-6.

The Falcons (31-5) move on to take on the winner of today’s match between No. 6 Academy of Our Lady and No. 11 Lakeshore.

In Division III, top seed Archbishop Hannan is heading to Lafayette after a convincing 25-8, 25-9, 25-10 victory over No. 16 Cabrini.

Claire Buisson finished 18 digs and served five aces while Sophie Bonnafee had 11 kills, 29 assists and five digs for Hannan. Rylee Morris finished with nine kills and three blocks. Carleigh Breaux put away 10 kills with 19 assists. Sarah Kirsch had four aces.

The Hawks (34-6) will face No. 9 Morgan City in the round of eight.

No. 11 Haynes Academy went on the road and upset No. 6 Rayne 26-24, 25-20, 25-20 to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Yellow Jackets (16-12) will meet No. 3 Lutcher next.

In Division IV, No. 8 Academy of the Sacred Heart (NO) advanced to the quarterfinals with a 25-18, 25-23, 28-30, 25-18 win over No. 9 Parkview Baptist.

MC Mazzanti led the way for the Cardinals with 14 kills, Marian Graffagnini had nine kills and 14 assists, Isabelle Moore finished with five kills, Brooke Habetz had 25 assists, Katherine Hale had nine digs and Catherine Bonura finished with two aces and 24 digs.

The Cardinals (22-9) will meet top seed Ascension Episcopal on Thursday.

In Division V, No. 5 McGehee is on to the quarterfinals following a 25-22, 25-15, 25-14 victory over No. 12 St. Martin’s Episcopal.

The Hawks (25-5) will next face No. 4 Calvary Baptist.

No. 10 Northlake Christian upset No. 7 Academy of the Sacred Heart (Grand Coteau) 25-17, 25-22, 25-18.

Sophie Cramond led the way for the Wolverines with nine kills, 12 assists and seven aces, Abby Bailey had five kills, eight digs and four blocks, Rylie Kuyper had nine kills, Peyton Vetter finished with six aces and seven digs and Abigail Drury finished with 21 assists.

The Wolverines (18-8) will take on No. 2 Westminster Christian in the quarterfinals.
