Volleyball Playoffs: Booker T. Washington, ASH, Curtis, Newman advance Tuesday

Prep Volleyball Playoff Report for Wednesday, Nov. 6

Four area teams were victorious Tuesday in the opening round of the LHSAA State Volleyball Playoffs.

In Division I, No. 9 St. Amant handled No. 25 Hammond 25-14, 25-19, 25-13 in Gonzales.

The Gators (20-14) advance to take on the winner of today’s match pitting No. 24 Barbe at No. 9 Central. The Tornadoes end their season at 20-17.

In Division III, No. 12 Booker T. Washington of New Orleans overcame a one-set deficit to down No. 21 Livonia 16-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-11.

The Lions (17-6) advance to play at No. 5 Iowa Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Iowa dismissed No. 28 Jennings 25-16, 25-18, 25-19. Livonia ended its season 11-17 while Jennings ended its season 13-14.

Also in Division III, No. 2 E.D. White Catholic easily defeated No. 31 Abramson Sci Academy 25-4, 25-8, 25-10 at Thibodaux.

The Cardinals (33-8) were led by Chloe Trosclair with four kills and five aces. Lila Bordis had four kills and a block while Joci Gravois had three kills, six assists and a block. Caroline Gros had 16 assists and served eight aces.

E.D. White advances to face the winner of No. 15 Lusher Charter and No. 18 DeQuincy while the Commodores end their season 8-8.

In Division IV, No. 8 Academy of The Sacred Heart of New Orleans advanced with a 25-7, 25-20, 25-9 win over No. 25 Springfield. The Bulldogs end their season 9-20.

The Cardinals (22-11) advance to host No. 9 John Curtis Christian Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in what should be a great match. The Patriots (31-12) handled No. 24 Loyola Prep 25-8, 25-7, 25-7 in River Ridge. The Flyers end their season 12-20.

Camryn Costanza led Curtis with 10 kills, an assist and a block while Jacke Melancon and Sierra Sacco each had six kills, eight aces and four digs. Danielle Taix had 23 assists, five aces, three digs and a kill.

Also in Division IV, No. 11 Newman downed No. 22 St. Thomas Aquinas 25-13, 25-16, 25-23. Kayley Hill finished with 12 kills, seven digs and five aces while Za Nelson had 11 kills for the Greenies while Jessica Miller had 37 assists. The Falcons end their season 10-18.

Newman (18-14) advances to face the winner of today’s match between No. 6 Ascension Episcopal and No. 27 Einstein Charter.

Also in Division IV, No. 12 Many (23-8) handled No. 21 Morris Jeff Community 25-14, 25-8, 25-12. Morris Jeff ended its season 16-7.

A host of matches take place today, including top-seeded Cabrini hosting No. 32 Northside at 4:30 p.m. in Division III action while in Division V, three-time defending state champion Country Day will entertain district rival Ridgewood at 4 p.m. in Old Metairie.
