Ben Franklin is accustomed to deep playoff volleyball runs, and the 2022 season is no exception.

The Falcons are heading to the state tournament in Lafayette after whipping No. 14 South Lafourche 25-20, 25-7, 25-18 on the Lakefront Friday.

Aubrey Muirhead led the Falcons with 16 kills and five blocks, Cori Staes had 13 kills, 19 digs and two blocks, Kat Kondkar had 21 assists. Lily Mayes had 14 assists and two aces, Zoe Bell had 18 digs and two aces and Sophie Roussel served six aces.

Ben Franklin (39-6) advances to meet the winner of No. 6 St. Scholastica and No. 11 Riverdale in the quarterfinals at the Cajundome in Lafayette.

It was not easy but No. 7 seed Academy of Our Lady advanced to Lafayette as well.

The Penguins did so Friday, coming from behind to beat No. 10 McDonogh 35 by scores of 22-25, 25-13, 25-11, 25-21.

Jaci Carmadelle led AOL with 11 kills, Abby Cao had 31 assists and served three aces while Ella Treadway had 17 digs.

Academy of Our Lady (26-10) advances to the quarterfinals at the Cajundome next Thursday to take on the winner of today’s match between No. 2 Teurlings Catholic and No. 18 Liberty.

In Division III, No. 2 seed Archbishop Hannan moved into the round of eight with a solid 25-5, 25-19, 25-21 victory over No. 15 Vandebilt Catholic.

The Hawks (32-7) will take on No. 10 Catholic of New Iberia in Lafayette next Thursday. Catholic upset No. 7 University Lab in four sets.

In Division IV, No. 6 Academy of the Sacred Heart of New Orleans is back in the state tournament after whipping No. 11 Springfield 25-15, 25-10. 25-21 in New Orleans.

Gigi Gibbons led the Cardinals with 10 kills, Cami Davis had seven kills, Brooke Habetz had 27 assists and seven digs, Katherine Hale had nine digs and Kate Farris served five aces.

Sacred Heart (25-10) advances to meet third seed John Curtis Christian next Thursday in what should be an outstanding matchup.

The Patriots have won 12 straight matches, including a thrilling five-set victory over the Cardinals on October 11.

In Division V, No. 9 seed McGehee advanced to the quarterfinals with a convincing 25-12, 25-14, 25-20 win at No. 8 Central Private.

The Hawks (23-11) will face a daunting challenge against a familiar opponent in District 9-V rival, 6-time defending state champion and top seed Country Day next Thursday in Lafayette. The Cajuns swept the Hawks in three sets in district play on October 7.

McGehee is the last team other than Country Day to win the Division V state championship. The Hawks did so in 2015.
