In Division I, fourth-seed Northshore (22-10) hosts a familiar opponent in District 5-I rival Mandeville (15-20). The Panthers won both regular season matchups, one in four sets and one in three sets.

Seniors Carly Merry and Amanda Giardina leads the Northshore attack, along with junior Rachel Rodriguez. Six-foot-3 sophomore Sadie Gomez is the top hitter for Mandeville and she has great support from freshman Taylor Pierce and senior Victoria Songe.

The winner advances to face the winner of Saturday’s matchup pitting 12th-seed Slidell at fifth-seed Dominican at the Pontchartrain Center next Thursday in the quarterfinals.

Other Division I matches involving area teams Saturday include three-time defending state champion and top-seed Mount Carmel hosting 17th-seed Ponchatoula at 2 p.m., 11th-seed Archbishop Chapelle plays at sixth-seed Dutchtown at noon and 18th-seed Hahnville travels to second-seeded St. Joseph’s Academy at 2 p.m.

As the second overall seed in Division II, Cabrini is a definite threat to reach the state championship match.

The Crescents (27-13) begin that quest Saturday when they host 15th-seed Lakeshore (17-20) Saturday at 11 a.m. You can watch the match live at CrescentCitySports.com.

After starting the season 0-3 against a tough schedule, the Crescents have gone 27-10, continuing to play a tough schedule throughout.

The Titans (17-20) are playing their best volleyball, closing the regular season by winning 10 of their last 13 matches.

Sophomores Kai Williams and Jen Brue, seniors Atira Jells and Endia Buck and junior Hope Lalla lead the way for Cabrini while junior Claire Ecuyer and sophomores Abby Hebert, Sara Tucker and Emily Wilcox spearhead the attack for a young but improving Lakeshore squad.

The winner advances to face the winner of Saturday’s matchup pitting 10th-seed Terrebonne against seventh-seed Ben Franklin at the Pontchartrain Center next Thursday in the quarterfinals.

In other Division II contests, 16th-seeded Warren Easton hits the road to Lafayette to face top-seed and four-time defending state champion and top-seed Teurlings Catholic at 2 p.m., 12th-seeded Academy of Our Lady is at fifth-seed South Terrebonne at 2 p.m., third-seed St. Scholastica hosts 19th-seed Live Oak at 1 p.m., 11th-seeded Belle Chasse heads to the bayou to face sixth-seed South Lafourche at 11:30 a.m. and seventh-seed Ben Franklin hosts 10th-seeded Terrebonne at 11 a.m.
