Volleyball: Northshore, MCA, Haynes, Dominican win Tuesday

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Wednesday, Sept. 7

Northshore certainly has had a challenging schedule to start the season.

The Lady Panthers opened with Mount Carmel Academy, winners of six straight Division I state titles from 2014-19, and fell in three sets to the Cubs.

Then, Northshore took on two-time defending Division I state champion Dominican. Dominican prevailed in straight sets.

On Tuesday, the tough grind paid off as Northshore got its first win, downing Lakeshore 28-26, 25-18, 25-21 at Lakeshore.

Tierney Terrell led the attack with 18 digs and 14 digs while Reese Jobert finished with 10 kills. Alivia Hartdegen had 25 digs and Emily Martin came up big for the Lady Panthers with 36 assists and 16 digs.

Northshore continues its very challenging early season schedule today at defending Division III state champion Archbishop Hannan at 5:30 p.m. while the Titans (1-2) host Springfield today at 5:30 p.m.

In the end, Mount Carmel Academy prevailed in straight sets over Pope John Paul II but it was anything but easy.

The Cubs prevailed in three tough sets 2523, 25-21, 25-23.

Senior Makayla Page led the attack for MCA with 10 kills, a block and a dig, senior Lindsey Wickersham had eight kills, 23 digs, two aces and two digs and junior Brooke Darrah had six kills and two blocks. Junior Nola Sevin had 16 digs, two aces and an assist while Emma Richey had 14 assists, three digs and a kill. Ellen Brown had 14 assists and seven digs.

Kayla Benedic led Pope John Paul with 14 kills and eight digs, Chloe Smith had 12 kills and 12 digs and Gabby Beadette finished with eight kills. Regan Mcvay had 13 digs, Peyton Natal had eight digs and two aces and Ali Tullis was a standout with 38 assists and 18 digs.

Mount Carmel (3-0) will host Fontainebleau today at 5:30 p.m. while Pope John Paul II (3-1) will play at Vandebilt Catholic next Monday.

At River Ridge, Haynes Academy whipped John Curtis Christian 25-11, 25-13, 25-18.

Virginia Voitier led the Yellow Jackets with 12 kills and three aces while Keira Mahoney had 10 kills and 16 assists. Hailey Peterson finished with 19 digs.

Imani Daniel led the Patriots with five kills while Marissa Taix finished with 19 digs.

Haynes (3-0) remained unbeaten and will play at rival Thomas Jefferson Thursday at 4:30 p.m. while John Curtis Christian (2-1) will travel to Terrebonne at 5:30 p.m., also on Thursday.

Defending state champion Dominican handled Dunham at home 25-16, 25-20, 25-13.

Junior Camryn Chatellier led the attack with 12 kills, five digs, an ace, an assist and a block while senior Anne Marie Hardouin had eight kills, five digs, two blocks and an ace and senior Zoe Smith had six kills and an ace. Junior Gabby Marcello had 23 assists and five digs and three aces.

Senior Nandi Huggins and senior Rhaia Davey each had six kills for the Tigers.

Dominican (3-0) will host defending Division III state champion Archbishop Hannan Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in a blockbuster matchup.
