Volleyball Mt. Carmel outlasts PJP II, Patrick Taylor, Country Day, Sacred Heart win Wednesday

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Thursday, Sept. 7

In a matchup of elite programs and prime state championship contenders in their respective classes, Mount Carmel Academy outlasted Pope John Paul II 22-25, 25-19, 25-20, 17-25, 16-14 in the best match of the young season.

There was little to separate the two powers.

Junior Julia Savois led the Cubs with 16 kills and four blocks, senior Brooke Darrah had 12 kills and three blocks and junior Emily Caracci each had 12 kills, six digs and served two aces. Junior Olivia Meyer added 10 kills and had 14 digs. Senior Nola Sevin had 30 digs. Junior Emma Richey had 52 assists and 18 digs.

Mount Carmel (4-0) will play at Cabrini next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Pope John Paul II (1-2) returns to action today at Ponchatoula at 5:30 p.m.

Patrick Taylor easily handled West Jefferson 25-3, 25-8, 25-10 at home Wednesday.

Senior Gabrielle Weber had five kills, served eight aces while freshman Shia Harlan added four kills. Senior Erica Ingraham had 11 aces. Junior Madison Barth produced 10 assists.

The Tigers (2-0) will play at Riverdale today at 4:30 p.m.

The Buccaneers (0-1) will host Booker T. Washington (NO) next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Country Day defeated Mandeville 25-15, 25-23, 25-17 in Metairie.

Lia Beverly served five aces, Addison Launey added 16 digs and Leila Washington had 10 kills for the Cajuns.

For the Skippers, senior Alex Schoepfin, junior Riley Edwards and junior Neely Roy each had four kills. Senior Elle Warren had 12 assists and junior Ella Marquez had five digs.

Country Day (3-1) plays at Haynes Academy next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Mandeville (1-2) hosts Walker today at 5:30 p.m.

Academy of the Sacred Heart of New Orleans defeated Cabrini 25-21, 21-25 25-17, 25-20. Gigi Gibbons led the Cardinals with 12 kills while Olivia Monstead finished with 11 kills. Caroline Balart had 23 assists and Taylor Roberts finished with 27 digs.

Sacred Heart (7-2) has won four straight matches.
