Volleyball: Mount Carmel sweeps Pope John Paul to highlight Wednesday action

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Thursday, Oct. 11

In the battle of titans, four-time Division I state champion Mount Carmel handled four-time defending Division IV state champion Pope John Paul II 25-9, 25-13, 25-11 in Lakeview Wednesday.

The Cubs controlled play from start to finish in a dominant effort.

MCA was led by Sofia Conway with three aces and 17 digs while Tori Frught dished out 27 assists. Mallory Norton had four kills for the Jaguars while Kendall Battistella finished with nine digs and eight assists.

Pope John Paul II is wracked by injuries to key players and it showed against the Cubs (28-1). Mount Carmel (28-1) returns to action next Wednesday at Mandeville at 5:30 p.m. while is back in action today at Pine at 4 p.m.

In Metairie, Haynes whipped Bonnabel 25-13, 25-14, 25-11 as Allie Catalano served four aces and dished out 12 assists while Jade Martin was best up front with eight kills.

The Yellow Jackets (14-4) return to action at home next Tuesday against St. James at 4:30 p.m. while the Bruins (4-11) return to action today at Higgins at 4 p.m. in a District 7-1 contest.

Ursuline came from behind to defeat Lusher 23-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-14 in a District 9-III contest at Lusher.

Nadia Farley led the Lions (15-12, 4-1) with 18 kills, Magan Pulizzano produce 39 assists, Annabel Beatmann had 20 digs and Sydney Cuneo served four aces. Ursuline will host Terrebonne today at 4:30 p.m. Lusher (3-13, 3-1) returns to action next Monday at De La Salle at 5:30 p.m.
