Area Prep Volleyball Report for Friday, Sept. 28

The juggernaut that is Mount Carmel Academy rolls on.

The Cubs survived a close first set to roll over a good Vandebilt Catholic squad 25-23, 25-15, 25-9 in Lakeview to remain unbeaten.

Mount Carmel (19-0) is the four-time defending Division I state champion and the heavy favorite to make it five in a row. The Cubs return to action Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Dominican in District 8-1 action while the Terriers (11-4) will host Cabrini Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Ben Franklin rebounded from a rare loss at Fontainebleau with a solid 25-14, 26-24, 25-17 win at Newman.

Darian Duroncelet led the Falcons (14-2) with 10 kills and five blocks, Logan Turner had 20 digs and served two aces, Isabella Summa had 20 digs and two aces and Julie Garrison dished out 25 assists. Kayley Hill was best for the Greenies ( with 12 blocks and nine kills while Shoshana Cohen had nine kills.

Ben Franklin returns to action Tuesday, hosting Warren Easton at 4 p.m. while Newman (7-9) will host Berwick Tuesday at 6 p.m.
