Volleyball: Mount Carmel, Destrehan win in straight sets Thursday

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Friday, Oct. 22

Mount Carmel Academy bounced back from another loss to top-ranked Dominican with a convincing 25-6, 25-3, 25-3 District 8-I win over Higgins at home in Lakeview Thursday.

Junior Sarah Bernadas led the Cubs with six kills while junior Makayla Page had five kills. Senior Sara Carollo and junior Lindsey Wickersham each served four aces. Carollo added eight digs while sophomore Sophie Junius had seven digs. Junior Ellen Brown had 10 assists, served six aces, and added four digs.

Mount Carmel (23-13, 2-1) return to district play next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at West Jefferson while Higgins (3-11, 0-3) are back in action today at 4:30 p.m. at M.L. King Charter.

Destrehan won at Riverside Academy 25-16, 25-14, 25-20.

Senior Ryley Borne had 15 kills, 11 digs, served seven aces , had four blocks and three assists while sophomore Khara Morton had 10 kills. Senior Sadie Rochelle added six kills. Senior Chloe Schexnayder had 14 digs and senior Skylar DeFrisco dished up 32 assists.

The Wildcats (13-5) has won four straight matches and will play at Belle Chasse Monday at 5:30 p.m. The Rebels (9-11) travel to West St. John for a District 8-V match Tuesday at 5 p.m.
