Area Prep Volleyball Report for Wednesday, September 21

Morris Jeff Community found itself down two sets Tuesday in its District 9-III opener at New Orleans Science & Math.

The Pelicans then rallied to win the final three sets to take a 25-27, 15-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-13 victory on the road.

It was the second win for Morris Jeff over the Chambered Nautilus. The Pelicans won a matchup in tournament action last Saturday.

Senior Jonea Green had 12 kills and a pair of aces while senior captain Keira Robinson led the way with seven kills and an ace.

Morris Jeff (3-4) returns to action Wednesday at home against Helen Cox at 4:30 p.m. while New Orleans Science & Math (1-6) dropped its fifth straight match and will play at John F. Kennedy Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Belle Chasse entered Tuesday’s match at Chalmette unbeaten.

The Cardinals are unbeaten no more.

The Owls upset Belle Chasse 25-18, 14-25, 25-21, 25-21 at Belle Chasse.

Gabrielle Landry led the offense with 10 kills, two blocks and an ace. Krislenn Lucas had nine kills, 12 digs and two blocks. Bryla Major finished with nine kills and a block. JoDee McMichael had eight kills nine digs and an ace. Alivyah Peters dished up 37 assists and Armoni Harris had 16 digs.

Chalmette (10-3) will travel to St. Martin’s Episcopal Thursday at 4:30 p.m. while the Cardinals (15-1) will travel to Newman Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Academy of Our Lady took a third straight victory, handling Central Lafourche 25-17, 25-16, 25-9 at home.

Lillian Daviss led the attack with 13 kills, Abby Cao had 21 assists, Ella Treadway finished with eight digs and Cassidy Jones had two blocks.

The Penguins (9-3) will return to action Wednesday at home against Crescent City Christian. The Trojans (5-13) are back in action Thursday at St. Charles Catholic at 4 p.m.

Academy of the Sacred Heart handled St. Charles Catholic 25-22, 25-11, 25-11 at home for its third straight win.

Mary Caroline Mazzanti had 12 kills and served 10 aces while Cami Davis had 10 kills. Lily Stone finished with 27 assists and Katherine Hale had 16 digs and four aces.

The Cardinals (15-3) travel to Pope John Paul II Thursday at 5:30 p.m. while the Comets (5-11) have dropped six straight matches and will host Central Lafourche Thursday at 4 p.m.

Defending Division I state champion Dominican remained unbeaten with a 25-15, 25-21, 25-13 victory over Pope John Paul II at home.

Anne Hardouin led Dominican with 11 kills and 22 digs, Oneil Haddad had eight kills and three blocks, Cam Chatellier finished with seven kills, 14 digs and three aces and Gabby Marcello finished with 29 assists and 13 digs.

Dominican (13-0) travels to St. Joseph’s Academy Thursday at 5:30 p.m. while the Jaguars (6-4) will travel to St. Thomas Aquinas Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Northlake Christian is another team to watch.

The Wolverines whipped Christ Episcopal 25-8, 25-11, 25-16 at home for its seventh straight win.

Lauren Miller and Ruby Busenitz led the attack. Miller had five kills and three aces while Busenitz finished with six kills and four digs. Abigail White finished with 16 assists and three aces.

Northlake Christian (7-3) will host Mandeville today at 5:30 p.m. while Christ Episcopal (1-6) plays at Pearl River Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
