Volleyball: McGehee stays unbeaten while Fontainebleau, John Curtis win 5-set thrillers

The Hawks, who are No. 1 in the LHSAA Division 1 power ratings, remained unbeaten with a convincing 25-12, 25-17, 25-7 win at St. Katharine Drexel Tuesday. The loss ended a five-match win streak for St. Katharine Drexel (12-10).

Now 28-0, the Hawks will host South Plaquemines next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. while the Yellowjackets will return to action today at Northlake Christian at 5:30 p.m.

In District 5-1 action, Fontainebleau handed Northshore its first district loss, outlasting the Panthers 26-28, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 15-11 at home Tuesday. It was the second five-set match between the two rivals this year. The Panthers downed Fontainebleau at home on Sept. 14.

Both teams return to District 5-1 play Thursday. The Bulldogs (16-9, 5-3) will be at home against Hammond at 5:30 p.m. while the Panthers (14-7, 6-1) travel to Mandeville for a 5:30 match.

In another thriller, John Curtis Christian rallied past Assumption 20-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-20, 15-13 at River Ridge in a non-district match.

It was the third straight win for the Patriots (12-12), who return to District 5-IV play Thursday at Riverside at 5:30 p.m. The Mustangs (13-10) are back in action today in another tough match in Metairie against Country Day at 5:30 p.m.
