Volleyball: Mt. Carmel, Mandeville, Chapelle, Northshore, Fontainebleau advance in Div. I playoffs

Five area schools all won at home in the opening round of the Division I volleyball playoffs Wednesday.

In Division I, No. 3 Mount Carmel Academy downed No. 30 Zachary 26-6, 25-10, 25-4.

Olivia Stant led the Cubs attack with 17 kills and four blocks. Nola Sevin had 20 digs, Lindsey Wickersham dished up 16 assists and Ella Mauterer had three aces and four blocks for Mount Carmel.

No. 8 Mandeville downed No. 25 West Monroe 25-10, 25-11, 25-20.

Geneva Thompson led the Skippers with 18 kills, Gabbi Hogge had seven kills and Maison Vigil finished with five kills. Laura Ferrier served six aces, produced 31 assists and had nine digs. Madeline Marquez had 18 digs while Ellie Warren contributed 11 digs. Laci Hill added 13 digs for Mandeville.

No. 10 Archbishop Chapelle took care of No. 23 Byrd 25-9, 25-15, 25-13.

Isabella McCann led the way for the Chipmunks with 14 kills, 10 digs and five aces while Megan LaCour put away 11 kills and served six aces. Colleen O’Connor had 11 digs. Haylie Lambert had 23 assists.

No. 16 Northshore advanced with a 25-18, 25-8, 25-17 victory over No. 17 Natchitoches Central.

No. 9 Fontainebleau dismissed No. 24 Denham Springs 25-18, 25-14, 25-11. Ally Alfonso led the way with eight kills while Belen Nelson had seven. Abby Hunt and Katy Hollingsworth had six kills each. Sydney Love notched five blocks. Ana Colwell and Presley Mahoney managed six digs each. Hannah Ellis had 16 assists and Alaina Townsend added 10.
