Volleyball: MCA, Dominican win ahead of Wednesday showdown

Six-time defending Division I state champion Mount Carmel Academy took down Archbishop Chapelle 25-14, 25-12, 25-14 in Metairie in District 7-I Tuesday. The win was the fourth straight for the Cubs.

Junior Olivia Stant led the way with 11 kills, sophomore Lindsey Wickersham had 10 kills, 19 assists, an ace and a block and sophomore Makayla Page finished with eight kills and three blocks. Senior Madison Martin had 19 digs and two assists and senior Rachelle Burdine contributed 21 assists.

The Cubs (12-4), who are second in the LHSAA Division I power ratings, are set for a showdown with rival and unbeaten Dominican at home today at 5:30 p.m. Dominican is the top-ranked team in the LHSAA Division I power ratings.

The Chipmunks (5-8) travel to Bonnabel Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Dominican tuned up for the showdown with a convincing 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 victory at Chalmette in another District 8-I contest to improve to 17-0.

Ben Franklin started fast and then had to battle back in a five-set thriller, beating Fontainebleau 25-19, 25-14, 20-25, 20-25, 15-13 in Mandeville. It was the seventh straight win for the Falcons.

Grace Delpit had 14 kills, Annabel Allen had 33 aces, Kate Humphreys produced 52 assists and Maddie Meeker finished with 13 digs for Ben Franklin.

The Falcons (16-3) play at Warren Easton today at 4:30 p.m. in a District 7-II contest while the Bulldogs (8-8) host Northshore Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
