Volleyball: Helen Cox, Sarah T. Reed, Pope John Paul stay hot with wins Monday

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Tuesday, September 27

It has been a season of streaks for the Helen Cox volleyball team.

The Cougars started their season with seven straight wins before losing five straight.

Helen Cox is hot again.

The Cougars won their fourth straight match, fighting past West Jefferson 25-10, 25-12, 19-25, 25-11 Monday at West Jefferson.

Asyia Blunt led the Helen Cox attack with 19 kills, 12 digs, two aces and a block, Anyla Dennison had 10 kills, seven digs, four aces and two blocks and Mariah Phillips finished with 18 assists and seven aces.

Helen Cox (11-5) will travel to Riverdale today at 4:30 p.m. the Buccaneers (2-7) will host McMain today at 5:30 p.m.

Sarah T. Reed stayed hot as well, winning its fifth straight match, going to the West Bank and overcoming an early deficit to defeat Landry 26-28, 25-21, 25-23, 25-18.

The Olympians (8-2) are back in action today, hosting St. Mary’s Academy at 4:30 p.m. while the Buccaneers (4-6) will entertain Haynes Academy today at 4:30 p.m. in a District 10-III contest.

Pope John Paul II went to Hammond and defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 25-14, 25-17, 25-10.

Kayla Benedic led the offense with 13 kills, 16 digs, four ace and a block. Gabby Beadette had seven kills, three digs, three blocks and an ace, Kady Benedic had six kills, two digs and two blocks. Ali Tullis had 34 assists, four digs and two kills, Emerson Alonzo finished with 10 digs and two aces, Chloe Smith finished with three kills, 13 digs and a block and Peyton Natal had four aces and three digs.

The Jaguars (8-4) will next host St. Scholastica Thursday at 4 p.m. while the Falcons (3-6) host Amite today at 5:30 p.m.
