Volleyball: Haynes defeats rival Thomas Jefferson in four sets

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Thursday, Oct. 25

Two great rivals on the East and West Banks of Jefferson Parish which are well known for academic excellence squared off on the court yesterday in Gretna and Haynes prevailed over Thomas Jefferson 25-16, 16-25, 25-21, 25-15.

Jade Martin and Alexa Poche each had 10 kills for the Yellow Jackets, Hannah Horaist had 20 digs and Allie Catalano served three aces and had 26 assists.

Haynes (15-12) snapped an eight-match losing streak with the victory. It was the second win for the Yellow Jackets over the Jaguars this season. Haynes opened its season with a three-set win at Thomas Jefferson on Aug. 27.

Haynes was 12th while Thomas Jefferson was 15th in the most recent LHSAA Division IV power ratings released on Tuesday.

The loss snapped a five-match win streak for Thomas Jefferson (15-17). The Jaguars close out their regular season today at home at 4:30 p.m. against International High.
