Volleyball: Dominican, Newman post convincing wins Tuesday

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Wednesday, Oct. 23

Dominican remained unbeaten in District 8-1 play Tuesday with a convincing 25-6, 25-7, 25-9 win at West Jefferson.

Senior Olivia Peyton had nine kills, three aces, two assists and two digs while freshman Zoe Smith and junior Elizabeth Hardouin each had five kills. Smith added nine aces, five assists and three digs while Hardouin had four aces and two assists.

It was the 12th win in the last 14 matches for Dominican (24-8, 3-0). It is back in action today for Dominican at St. Scholastica at 4:30 p.m. Dominican is fourth in the most recent LHSAA Division 1 power ratings posted Monday.

In a battle of uptown neighbors, Newman dismissed De La Salle 25-17, 25-21, 25-16 at home in District 8-IV action.

Freshman Za Nelson led the charge for the Greenies with 13 kills and eight aces, senior Kayley Hill had nine kills and three blocks and freshman Morgan LeBourgeois had 12 digs. Newman is 10th in the latest Division IV power ratings.

With the win, Newman (15-14, 3-1) climbed back above .500. The Greenies host Destrehan Thursday at 4:30 p.m. while the Cavaliers (6-22, 2-2), who have lost six straight matches, close their regular season Monday at Northshore at 5:30 p.m.
