Volleyball: Dominican gets revenge against Mount Carmel, Chalmette defeats Riverside

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Thursday, Oct. 27

The top two teams in Division I volleyball are the biggest of rivals and also in the same district.

Dominican and Mount Carmel have won the last nine Division I state titles. Mount Carmel won seven straight from 2014-2020. Dominican has won the last two titles.

The two sides entered Wednesday’s match at Dominican as close as possible in the race for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming playoffs.

Dominican took a big step forward toward claiming the top seed, extracting revenge with a 25-20, 24-26, 27-25, 25-14 win at home over the Cubsju.

The win avenged a four-set loss at Mount Carmel on October 12.

Cam Chatellier led the attack with 16 kills and 19 digs, Anne Hardouin had 13 kills, 26 digs and four aces and Zoe Smith had 13 kills and 20 digs. Gabby Marcello was huge with 47 assists and 19 digs, and Lauren Pipitone had 26 digs. O’neill Haddad produced the 1,000th kill of her career.

Makayla Page had 21 kills for the Cubs.

Dominican (33-2, 6-1) has a final district match remaining at Chalmette Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Mount Carmel (34-4, 6-1) has one district match remaining Thursday at home against 5:30 p.m. against John Ehret.

Chalmette maintained its high level of play which will lead to a top solid seed in the upcoming Division I playoffs, whipping Riverside Academy 25-23, 25-21, 25-10.

Bryla Major had 12 kills, Krislenn Lucas had 10 kills, six digs and five blocks, JoDee McMichael had eight kills, 11 digs and a block, Gabrielle Landry had six kills and an ace and Alivyah Peters had eight digs and an ace and Armoni Harris finished with 17 digs.

The Owls (31-12) are ninth in the current LHSAA Division I power ratings.

Riverside completed its regular season 17-14 overall.
