Volleyball: Dominican, Ben Franklin take district wins Thursday

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Friday, Oct. 8

In a showdown of elite programs, Dominican went to Mount Carmel Academy and dominated from start to finish in a convincing 25-14, 25-17, 25-9 win Thursday in the District 8-I opener for both teams.

Junior Zoe Smith had 11 kills while sophomore Camryn Chatellier had 10 kills and two aces for Dominican. Junior Anne Hardouin added nine kills and two blocks. Senior Kate Baker was outstanding with 36 assists, five kills and two blocks.

Senior Olivia Stant topped the Cubs (15-9) with nine kills while junior Lindsay Wickersham had six kills and a block.

The win was the third for Dominican (21-1) over Mount Carmel this season and the rivals will meet again in district play at Dominican on Oct. 20.

In District 7-II action, Ben Franklin won at Carver 25-10, 25-12, 25-17.

Junior Emma Fisackerly led the way with 10 kills, sophomore Sophie Roussel served nine aces and freshman Lilly Mayes had 12 digs for the Falcons.

Ben Franklin (15-4, 2-0) returns to action Monday, hosting Fontainebleau at 4 p.m.

The Rams (8-3, 1-1) are slated to play at Jefferson Rise next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
