Volleyball: Country Day, Sacred Heart, Ben Franklin with impressive victories
Area Prep Volleyball Schedule for Tuesday, Oct. 5
As the most dominant program in any class over the last decade, Country Day is firmly established as the favorite in Division V every year.
The 2021 season is no exception.
In a rematch Monday of last year’s state championship match, the Cajuns whipped McGehee 25-16, 25-22, 25-20 at McGehee.
Kansas commit Ellie Schneider had 13 kills and four blocks while Nia Washington finished with 12 kills, one ace and one block. Jordan Felix had 15 kills to lead the Hawks.
Country Day (11-2) is red hot, winners of eight straight matches. The Cajuns will travel to Archbishop Hannan today at 5:30 p.m.
McGehee (12-3) saw its five-match win streak end and the Hawks host St. Mary’s Academy today at 4:30 p.m.
Academy of The Sacred Heart went to Marrero and fought off Academy of Our Lady in a good match 25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 25-23.
Destinee Williams had 13 kills and two blocks while Abbie Robichaux had 17 assists for the Penguins.
The Cardinals (10-7) has had an up-and-down season. Sacred Heart won their first six matches before losing their next six. Now, ASH has settled back in and is playing well again.
Sacred Heart will host Cabrini at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
After winning their first seven matches, AOL (7-3) has lost its last three matches. The Penguins host Karr today at 4:30 p.m.
Ben Franklin handled St. Scholastica 25-10, 25-19, 25-14 in Covington for its fourth straight win.
Senior Delpit led the way with 18, senior Annabel Allen dished up 42 assists and freshman Lilly Mayes had 12 digs for the Falcons.
Ben Franklin (13-4) will play at Carver at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Doves (6-12) travel to Salmen today at 5:30 p.m. in a District 5-II contest.
