Volleyball: Country Day, MCA, Lakeshore, Belle Chasse, Salmen, Hannan, Pope John Paul advance Thursday

Prep Volleyball Playoff Report for Friday, Nov. 8

Five-time defending state champion Mount Carmel Academy opened defense of its Division I state title Thursday with a convincing 25-11, 25-10, 25-6 victory at home over No. 32 Walker.

The Cubs (30-7) advance to host No. 16 Airline Saturday at 11 a.m. Walker ended its season 17-19.

Today, second seed Mandeville hosts district rival and 18th-seeded Northshore at 5 p.m. The Skippers and Panthers split a pair of regular season matchups.

In Division II, No. 16 South Lafourche eliminated No. 17 Landry-Walker 26-24, 25-11, 25-22 at Galliano.

The Tarpons (13-18) advance to play at No. 1 Teurlings Catholic Saturday at 10 a.m. The Chargin’ Bucs end their season 16-15.

No. 9 Lakeshore handled No. 24 Northwood 25-6, 25-9, 25-10 in Mandeville. The Titans (23-13) advance to play at No. 8 Belle Chasse Saturday at 11 a.m. Northwood finished its season 15-12.

The Cardinals (31-12) dismissed No. 25 Helen Cox 25-13, 25-17, 25-15. The Cougars end their season 16-16.

No. 6 Lee High defeated No. 27 Riverdale 25-6, 25-6, 25-14 in Baton Rouge. Lee (33-3) advances to host No. 11 McKinley Saturday at 10 a.m.

No. 15 Salmen went on the road and downed No. 18 Beau Chene 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16. The Spartans (16-11) advance to play at No. 2 Ben Franklin today at 4:30 p.m. Beau Chene ended its season 19-17.

In Division III, three teams advanced to the quarterfinals and the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.

No. 7 Archbishop Hannan handled No. 10 David Thibodaux 25-12, 25-16, 25-11 and the Hawks will face No. 2 E.D. White Catholic in the quarterfinals. The Cardinals took care of No. 15 Lusher Charter 25-9, 25-12, 25-12.

In Division III, No. 5 Iowa also advanced to Kenner with a 25-13, 20-25, 25-12, 25-18 win over No. 12 Booker T. Washington of New Orleans in the regional round.

In Division IV, No. 5 University High defeated No. 12 Many 25-14, 25-6, 25-19 to advance to Kenner where the Cubs will take on a familiar foe in district rival and No. 4 Parkview Baptist. The Eagles eliminated No. 20 De La Salle 25-13, 25-7, 25-11.

No. 3 Pope John Paul II is heading back to Kenner after a 25-11, 25-9, 25-11 victory over No. 19 Patterson.

No. 2 Dunham also advanced to the quarterfinals, downing No. 15 St. Charles Catholic 25-16, 25-16, 25-18.

In Division V, three teams advanced to Kenner, including top seed and 3-time defending state champion Country Day.

The Cajuns handled Riverside Academy 25-5, 25-9, 25-10. No. 11 Highland Baptist outlasted No. 6 Northside Christian in five sets and No. 2 Central Catholic beat No. 15 Ascension Christian in 3 sets.
