Volleyball: Ben Franklin, Belle Chasse, Riverdale, Hannan, Cabrini advance with wins in Div. II, Div. III playoffs

Five more area schools were victorious in opening round play in the LHSAA state volleyball playoffs Wednesday.

In Division II, No. 3 Ben Franklin took care of No. 30 Ellender 25-8, 25-14, 25-8.

Grace Delpit led the Falcons with 11 kills and 11 digs while Annabel Allen served four aces and had 24 assists.

No. 5 Belle Chasse advanced with a 25-12, 27-25 25-13 victory over No. 28 Breaux Bridge.

No. 10 Riverdale ousted No. 23 Neville 25-7, 25-11, 25-16. Isabelle Cox had 15 digs and four aces, Morgan Williams racked up 15 assists with five aces and Maelyn Forestier converted 11 kills and five aces.

In Division III, top seed Archbishop Hannan handled No. 32 David Thibodaux 25-4, 25-8, 25-2.

Sophia Bonnafee led the way with 12 kills while Sydne Grembowicz added five kills. Sarah Kirsch had five aces while Abby Diecidue and Avery Boudreaux each served four aces.

Claire Buisson had seven digs

Also in Division III, No. 16 Cabrini fought off No. 17 Ursuline Academy 25-11, 27-25, 20-25, 18-25, 15-9 at home.

Raelyn Mornay was a force with 21 kills for the Crescents while Samantha Jo Rearick Jajoue had 12 kills, 32 assists and four aces. Arianna Marrero added 24 assists and Alex Rutledge produced 14 digs.
