Wide receiver Brian Newman has not played a game at Tulane in two seasons since walking on to the squad in 2016. He injured his knee in preseason last year and worked his way back from the injury to rejoin the team for spring practice.

On Thursday, at the Green Wave’s “Let’s Talk Football” preseason event at Boomtown Casino in Harvey, Newman got some surprising news.

After the event, Newman called his father to break the good news.

The Houston native, who transferred to Tulane from Division III Hillsdale College in Michigan, has a deep list of off-field accomplishments. Newman is the university’s nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team in 2018. He has twice been a member of the Green Wave’s 3.0 Club and was named to the American Athletic Conference’s all-academic team a year ago.
