Video: Rummel swimming state champ Calix Hammett signs with Kentucky
METAIRIE – Archbishop Rummel senior Calix Hammett will look to defend his Division I state titles in the 50 and 100 freestyle at next week’s LHSAA swimming championships in Sulphur.
But first, he solidified his college destination by signing a national letter of intent with the University of Kentucky Wednesday as part of a fall signing ceremony on the Rummel campus.
Hammett has improved throughout his prep career, culminating with his dual titles at last year’s state meet.
He is seeking a fourth straight trip to the final in both events. As a freshman, Hammett was sixth in the 50 and eighth in the 100 at the state meet. He improved to finish third in both events as a sophomore in 2021, and swept the sprint titles a year ago, capping a junior campaign in which he was the swimmer of the meet at the Metro championships and also won district titles in both events.
Hammett won the district championship in both the 50 and 100 last month.
The state swimming championships are Nov. 15-18.
