Country Day junior quarterback Justin Ibieta and John Curtis Christian coach J.T. Curtis are the Player of the Year and Coach of the Year for the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation Quarterback Club, CrescentCitySports.com, WGSO 990 AM and Friday Night Football on NOLA 38 and ABC 26.

The announcement was made at the year-end meeting of the 80th year of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation Quarterback Club.

Ibieta completed 191-of-295 (65%) passes for 2,870 yards and 38 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He rushed 147 times for 1,023 yards (6.97 avg.) and 17 touchdowns, accounting for 55 touchdowns total.

In the playoffs, Ibieta accounted for all 16 touchdowns scored by his team. He threw for 11 scores and ran for five touchdowns in leading Country Day to an unbeaten regular season, the No. 2 seed in Division III and to the semifinals as part of an 11-1 season, the best in school history.

In his 50th year, Curtis guided his team to a No. 1 seed, a perfect 13-0 record and the state championship in Division I with a resounding 49-7 win over Catholic of Baton Rouge, avenging a loss to the Bears in the title game in 2017. It was the 27th state championship on the field and the 26th officially for Curtis. He now has 582 wins, by far the most in Louisiana prep football history and the second most in the history of prep football in the United States.

The Karr Cougars are the 2018 Team of the Year after a perfect 15-0 season, culminating with a 28-20 victory over Warren Easton in the Class 4A state championship game. Karr became just the tenth school in Louisiana history to win three consecutive state championships.
