Former Southern University football player Devon Gales, who was paralyzed in a 2015 game against Georgia, has been hired an assistant coach by Jefferson (Ga.) High School.

“We are so proud to announce the addition of Devon Gales to our Dragon coaching staff,” the Jefferson football program posted on Twitter. “The former Southern University star will be a tremendous asset to our program.”

Georgia and its supporters have helped Gales with his recovery, providing him with a handicapped accessible home in Jefferson located just 20 miles from the Athens campus. He is a Central High (Baton Rouge) graduate.
