Video: Contentious moments for head coaches, players late and after LSU’s NIT win over ULL
VIDEO COURTESY OF ROBERT O’SHIELDS, WGNO SPORTS:
LSU defeated ULL in the NIT first round Wednesday night but the most memorable moments from the meeting of state schools came in the final seconds and during the postgame events on the floor.
Tigers coach Will Wade called timeout with 12.4 seconds in a move he later admitted was intended to force the Ragin’ Cajuns to endure the final moments of the impending loss a little longer:
Wade on last timeout: Since they don't get to play us very often, I thought they should get to sit there and enjoy playing us.

Wade had taken exception to comments by Ragin’ Cajuns coach Bob Marlin leading up the game including the latter’s belief No. 6 seed ULL should have been seeded higher than No. 3 seed LSU. Marlin also had stated that Wade and the Tigers would rather have avoided facing the Cajuns at all.
Marlin was not amused by the late timeout, and the actions of both head coaches led to technical fouls.
After the final handshakes between the two teams and coaching staffs (including an uncomfortable one between Wade and Marlin), players from both teams eventually had to be separated.
Wade had more to say on Marlin’s previous comments and the events late in the game during his press conference following the win (see video).
LSU advances to the NIT Round of 16 to play at Utah next Monday night at 8 p.m. central time.
