UNO to host Texas Southern in CIT

NEW ORLEANS – Postseason basketball returns to Lakefront Arena for the second consecutive season as the University of New Orleans hosts round one of the Postseason Tournament (CIT) Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Privateers draw Texas Southern University in their third straight postseason following the 2017 NCAA Tournament and 2018 College Basketball Invitational (CBI).

The Privateers advanced to the championship of the 2019 Southland Tournament, while the Tigers appeared in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) title game.

UNO takes a 19-13 record into their third consecutive national postseason tournament appearance.

Former LSU head coach Johnny Jones leads the Tigers into New Orleans with a 21-13 record.

The CIT field consists of 26 teams in the old single-elimination format used by the National Invitational Tournament. The competing teams with be reseeded following each round of play. All compete in the first round while three winners will receive second round byes into the tournament quarterfinals. All CIT games will be played at on-campus sites.

Three Southland Men’s Basketball Teams Set For Postseason Play

FRISCO, Texas – Southland Conference tournament champion Abilene Christian headlines a trio of teams competing in the postseason this week.

The Wildcats battle the Wildcats of Kentucky in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday at 6:10 p.m. CT on CBS in Jacksonville, Fla. With a 77-60 win over New Orleans, ACU won the league’s automatic bid to the Big Dance and earned the No. 15 seed in the Midwest Region.

Sam Houston State
The Bearkats earned an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament after claiming the Southland’s regular-season title and earning the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. Sam Houston State will head to Fort Worth as a No. 8 seed to face No. 1 TCU at 8 p.m. Wednesday on ESPNU.

New Orleans
The Southland Conference Tournament runner-up will stay home to host Texas Southern in the first round of the Tournament at 7 p.m. Wednesday. It marks the Privateers’ third-straight trip to the postseason after an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017 and playing in the College Basketball Invitational in 2018.
