Privateers Men’s Basketball releases Southland schedule
NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans men’s basketball officially released its 2021 Southland Conference slate Wednesday and the Privateers will host eight of their 16 league contests at Lakefront Arena.
Mark Slessinger enters his 10th season as the leader of the men’s basketball squad. He begins the campaign just five wins away from tying Tim Floyd for the second-most wins (126) in program history. He is the longest-tenured coach on the Lakefront.
Earlier this month, the Privateers were picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll and Troy Green was named to the preseason second team. He enters just 57 points shy of becoming the 24th member of the illustrious 1,000 club.
When the calendar flips to 2021, the Privateers begin league play on the road at last year’s regular-season champion Stephen F. Austin (January 2) and Central Arkansas (January 6).
The conference home opener is Saturday, January 9 versus UIW and the bout against the Cardinals is the first of a three-game homestand – McNeese (January 16) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Tuesday, January 19).
The month ends with a three-game road trip to in-state rivals Nicholls (January 23), Northwestern State (January 27), and Southeastern (January 30).
The second go-around against league opponents begins with the Privateers hosting the Lumberjacks (February 6) and Central Arkansas (February 10). Road contests versus UIW (February 13), McNeese (February 20) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (February 23) are sandwiched between the final contest in February – a home bout versus Nicholls (February 27).
UNO concludes its regular season hosting Northwestern State (March 3) and Southeastern (March 6). The conference tournament is scheduled for March 10-16 in Katy.
We will stream all 2020-21 home contests live and FREE on the Privateer Sports Network, https://unoprivateers.com/watch/. Jude Young will also bring you the action all season long on NASH Icon 106.1 FM and the TuneIn App.
