NEW ORLEANS – The bats went to work early behind a gem from Brandon Mitchell as the New Orleans Privateers shut out the Florida A&M Rattlers 12-0 after seven innings on Saturday afternoon at Maestri Field.

DECISIONS
Mitchell pitched six shutout innings for the win and he threw 71 percent of his pitches for strikes. Grant Harrison took the loss after allowing 10 runs in 2.1 innings.

New Orleans (2-4) didn’t take long to get the offense going. With the bases loaded after the first three batters, Tristan Moore came up and drilled a double into the gap in right-center to score two runs. With two outs, the Privateers added four more.

Jorge Tejeda, who was not retired in four plate appearances on the day, drew a bases loaded walk. That set up Issac Williams who tripled into right-center to clear the bases. When the dust settled, the Privateers were up 6-0 after an inning.

That run support was plenty for Mitchell who did not face more than one baserunner in any of his six innings. After the second, nobody got into scoring position against the senior southpaw who also landed one shy of tying his career high in strikeouts.

New Orleans scored in five of six innings at the plate. That included a three-spot in the third which saw the Privateers take advantage of two early free baserunners.

All nine starters collected a hit for the Privateers who are now 17-6 in Andre Dawson Classic games.

Canaan Clayton worked his second scoreless inning of work this week to close out the game in a non-save situation.

INSIDE THE BOX
Moore went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Kasten Furr had a hit and two runs. Tyler Bischke went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run. Tejeda finished 2-for-2 with two RBI.
