BEAUMONT, Texas – It was a scoreless game into the fifth inning but the Lamar Cardinals separated late in defeating the New Orleans Privateers 6-0 on Friday night at Vincent-Beck Stadium in the series opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Haden Erbe got out of a first and third with one out situation in the second on the strength of two consecutive strikeouts and was matching strides early. However, the Cardinals broke through with a sac fly by Logan Lejeune to get on the board. Ben MacNaughton followed with an RBI triple to give the Cardinals a second run in the inning.

Lamar added another tally in the sixth and three more in the seventh. An error helped set the stage for three runs to score. The first came on a wild pitch. Then Avery George singled through the left side to bring in two more.

Trevin Michael allowed three hits in the first four innings but only one for the remainder of a complete game. He threw 107 pitches and 76 of them were strikes.

UNO remains in first place in the Southland with 66 points followed by Abiliene Christian with 62 points and Southeastern with 60.
