BRUSLY – In a clash of undefeated District 7-3A teams, top-ranked University Lab used second half turnovers to turn a close 7-0 halftime lead into a 42-6 blowout of Brusly.

The Cubs recovered a Brusly fumbled punt for a score in the third quarter to double their lead before the flood gates opened.

University scored 28 unanswered points in total over a four minute span with all four touchdowns coming off Panther turnovers. The top highlight of the sequence for the Cubs came when Holden Fox scored on a 24-yard interception return

In a sign of things to come later, Brusly opened the game with a 14-play drive that ended with a University interception on the 10-yard line.

“We handed them a football game. We’re playing the game we want to play. we’re in the ball game. we’re doing what we want to do offensively and defensively,” Brusly head coach Hoff Schooler said. “How you respond to that adversity is going to be the difference between winning and losing these games.”

Ryder Rabalais scored the lone touchdown for Brusly (5-1, 4-1) on a 41-yard run.

Leading the way for University (6-0, 3-0) on offense, Brian Beck rushed 11 times for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Blake Abney, who had 183 yards passing, tossed a 36-yard Touchdown to Austin Ausberry.

“I thought the defense really took over,” said University head coach Andy Martin. “I Thought the defense played outstanding all night long. To put points on the board defensively, it was a good job by them.”

University next faces another showdown when they take on Madison Prep while Brusly looks to rebound when they host Baker.
