Undrafted free agents quickly scooped up after NFL Draft
The 2018 NFL draft is history, and now the teams are scurrying to fill their current 90-man rosters with undrafted free agents.
The New Orleans Saints have not completed their free agent roster following the draft, but thus far these undrafted players will have their chance to impress:
OL Cory Helms (6-4, 314) from South Carolina
WR Keith Kirkwood (6-2, 220) from Temple
DT Tyler Stallworth (6-2, 315) from South Carolina
TE Deon Yelder (6-3, 255) from Western Kentucky (grabbed 52 passes for 688 yards with 7 TD’s last season and is an excellent special teamer).
Meanwhile, LSU had a few undrafted players find new homes:
OT K.J. Malone (6-4, 308) to the Houston Texans
OT Toby Weathersby to the Philadelphia Eagles.
DT Greg Gilmore (6-4, 320) to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
DT Christian LaCouture (6-3 ½,- 290) to the Baltimore Ravens.
CB Kevin Toliver to the Chicago Bears.
Former LSU basketball forward Brian Bridgewater, who had offers to play football while at Scotlandville, chose to play basketball instead. He will sign as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Bucs. Bridgewater (6-5, 273) hopes to follow in footsteps as others who successfully made the same transition from college basketball to NFL success at the position (Jimmy Graham, Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates).
Grambling RB Martez Carter (5-7, 205) is headed to the Redskins. Southern CB Danny Johnson (5’9-182) will sign with the Redskins.
Undersized Texas DT Poona Ford (5-11, 308), who was expected to hear his name called in mid rounds, will sign with Seattle.
Some of productive running backs on the college level will try to earn their keep after being skipped over in the draft. Notre Dame’s Josh Adams, projected by some in the mid-rounds, will join the Philadelphia Eagles. Vanderbilt’s all time leading rusher, Ralph Webb, will get a tryout with the Patriots. Auburn’s Kamryn Pettway (6-0, 233) sign with the Vikings.
Southern Miss WR Korey Robertson (6-1, 212) left the Golden Eagles as a junior after catching 76 passes for 1,106 yards and 12 scores but went undrafted. He will sign also ink with Vikings.
Highly-productive pass rusher Hercules Mata’afa out of Washington State heads to the Vikings as well.
McNeese WR Kent Shelby, an Archbishop Shaw alum, and Grambling OG Trenton Scott will join the L.A. Chargers as will former Nicholls and Denham Springs DT Tevin Lawson.
Grambling DB Michael Meander will get a look with the Browns.
Also of note, former Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett was invited to earn a spot with the Colts.
