MONROE, La. – ULM senior outside hitter Haley Coulter was named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday morning following her performance in three matches at Stephen F. Austin on Friday and Saturday.

Coulter, a graduate transfer from Angelo State, had an impressive debut as a Warhawk. The Bradenton, Florida, native posted a career-high 21 kills to go with 23 digs, two blocks and two service aces in the season-opener against Lamar on Friday. Her 23 digs mark the second-highest total in her career. She collected 25 digs in a match while playing for Angelo State in November 2019.

“I’m very proud of the impact Haley leaves with the team, both on and off the court,” ULM head volleyball coach Charlie Olson said. “She’s a natural leader and brings a calming presence to our defense. She has an extremely high volleyball IQ from her experiences at Tulsa and Angelo State. Haley will continue to lead our backcourt as a six-rotation outside hitter. Even though she’d love to be our libero, she scores too many points for us to put her in the jersey.”

Coulter is ULM’s first Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week since Marcela Araya won the award on Nov. 17, 2014.

She finished the weekend at SFA with 18 digs Friday night against the host Ladyjacks and added nine kills and 13 digs against Houston Baptist.

The Warhawks are scheduled to return to action Friday and Saturday in Mobile, Alabama, against Stephen F. Austin and South Alabama.
