Dow Announces Decision Not to Seek Contract Renewal

MONROE, La. – ULM women’s head basketball coach Jeff Dow has announced his decision to step down at the conclusion of his five-year contract, effective March 31, 2019, and not seek a contract renewal.

“We wish Jeff, his wife Emily and family nothing but the best,” ULM Interim Athletics Director Scott McDonald said. “We deeply appreciate the five years of service he provided our women’s basketball student-athletes.

“We intend to conduct a national search to find our next head women’s basketball coach, and that process with begin immediately.”

Statement by Jeff Dow:
“After many discussions with my wife, Emily, and after careful consideration, I have decided not to ask for a renewal of my contract at ULM following the 2018-19 season. However, I do fully intend on honoring my contract through March 31st. I look forward to finishing the season strong with this outstanding group of young women.

Since being hired in 2014, the city of Monroe has transformed from a town in northeast Louisiana that I knew little about, to home for my family. Chloe (6) has grown up here and Helena (3) was born here. Emily proudly earned her doctorate from ULM, making her forever a Warhawk. I cannot thank both ULM and the Monroe community enough for embracing our family from day one. I challenge anyone to find a more welcoming community.

This decision was difficult, as I will miss coaching our exceptional student-athletes inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Many things have changed over the course of my time at ULM, and I hope the university will provide the support needed for the next coach so the program can compete consistently in the Sun Belt. Winning has not been easy for any of our sports since joining the conference, but our student-athletes are blessed with Warhawk faithful who support them no matter what.

As the Dow family looks for our next adventure, we hope to find a program whose aspirations are matched by both the resources and leadership. Thank you ULM and the City of Monroe, and know the Dow family will always be cheering you on. Talons Out.”
