ULM sweeps singles titles to wrap up Warhawk Invite
MONROE, La. – Hala Badwy, Madalina Grigoriu and Daniela Hernandez combined to sweep the singles bracket titles for the ULM women’s tennis team Saturday at Heard Stadium.
In the gold bracket, Badwy, a sophomore, knocked off teammate and senior Drousile Dzeubou, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
In the burgundy bracket, Grigoriu, a senior, moved to 5-0 in singles play this fall with a 7-6 (8), 6-3 win over the Ragin’ Cajuns’ Dana Radovanovic.
In the black bracket, Hernandez, a freshman, made quick work of the Ragin’ Cajuns’ Babette Burgersdijk, 6-1, 6-2, to take the title.
In singles consolation play, the Cajuns’ Floraine Picaut defeated junior Jimena Paula Garbino, 3-6, 6-2 (10-8). The Cajuns’ Anna Harvey topped sophomore Jelena Lopicic, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
All three Warhawk doubles teams closed out the tournament strong with wins against doubles teams from Grambling. Dzeubou and Hernandez swept Grambling’s Paige Stanford and Brittney Combest, 6-0. Grigoriu and Lopicic topped Natalie Malone and Ana Ochoa, 6-1. Badwy and Garbino knocked off Danna Galeano and Mikaila Coleman, 6-1.
The Warhawks will wrap up the fall schedule at the Louisiana Tech Invitational on Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
