ULM adds four pitchers in early signing period
MONROE, La. – ULM head baseball coach Michael Federico announced four signings for the 2021 Warhawk recruiting class for the early signing period.
The class includes four pitchers, two from the junior college ranks and two high school players. Turner Toms, a left-handed pitcher from Chipola College, and Mikel Howell, a right-handed pitcher from Northeast Texas Community College, are set to join the program from junior college. Cole Brady, a right-handed pitcher from Central Heights High School in Nacogdoches, Texas, and Lane Little, a left-handed pitcher from West Monroe High School in West Monroe, Louisiana, will join the program following their senior seasons in high school.
“We are excited about the four young men that are joining our program,” ULM head baseball coach Michael Federico said. “We wanted to add to our pitching staff and we definitely feel good about these guys impacting our staff right away. It’s important for the development of our program to add some high school arms and we are very excited about Lane and Cole. We will still have some work to do to finish this recruiting class up, but we are off to a really nice start.”
Cole Brady | RHP | Nacogdoches, Texas | Central Heights HS
Comments from ULM Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator Jacob Carlson: “Cole is a very athletic kid with a quick arm. He can really spin the ball and has good feel for the changeup. Cole is a very competitive guy that really enjoys working on his craft. With continued added strength, Cole has a very high ceiling in our program.”
Mikel Howell | RHP | Huntsville, Texas | Northeast Texas CC
Carlson’s comments: “Mikel is a physical right-handed pitcher. He’s going to pitch 88-91 with good feel for a couple of secondary pitches. The thing we really like about Mikel is that he pounds the zone and creates great tempo. Mikel is versatile and can fit in a variety of roles in our staff.”
Lane Little | LHP | Calhoun, Louisiana | West Monroe HS
Carlson’s comments: “We are very excited to keep Lane home. Lane is a three-pitch guy that has exceptional command of the baseball. Lane is a winner and has very high expectations of himself. We really feel when he just focuses on baseball year-round that he’ll make another jump on the mound.”
Turner Toms | LHP | Benton, Louisiana | Chipola College
Carlson’s comments: “Turner is a physical left-handed pitcher that we feel will have a major role right when he gets to campus. Turner has good feel for three pitches and plays at one of the premier junior colleges in the country. He has good feel for the strike zone and is a very competitive young man. Turner is a Louisiana guy, so we are very excited to get him back home.”
