NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University football team suffered a tough 28-21 loss Saturday night to UAB inside Yulman Stadium.

The game marked the first time the Green Wave played in Yulman Stadium this season. With the loss Tulane falls to 1-3 on the year.

“Those guys have won their league two out of the last three years,” head coach Willie Fritz said. They’re a darn good football team. We’ve gotta play well in order to win games, we can’t just play well in parts of games. We wanted to go ahead and come out here and play really well and get that good outcome, and unfortunately we didn’t so we’re very disappointed.

“We’ve got to challenge ourselves, get better, there’s no doubt about it. There was a lot of things that we have to be honest with ourselves: where we’re at, who is making good plays and who isn’t making plays, what were good calls and what were bad calls. You know, what do we need to do to get better? That’s really all you can do.”

Freshman quarterback Michael Pratt finished the game by throwing for a game-high 296 yards passing, going 27-of-49 through the air and tied a career high with three touchdown passes. Pratt has now thrown a touchdown pass in 14 consecutive games. With his three touchdown passes, Pratt now has 30 in his career which leaves him at ninth in program history.

Defensively for the Green Wave, Tulane sophomore linebacker Dorian Williams led the way for the Green Wave with 7.0 tackles. He also added 1.0 tackle for loss.

The Blazers opened up the with a 21-0 lead midway through the second quarter. The Green Wave’s first scoring drive of the game came off a 20-yard touchdown pass as Pratt found tight end Will Wallace wide open in the middle of the field to get Tulane on the board.

The Green Wave found the endzone again with an 11-play, 75-yd drive with six seconds to go in the first half. Junior wide receiver Deuce Watts capped off the drive as he hauled in the seven-yard pass to bring the score to 21-14.

UAB had the only score of the third quarter with an eight-play, 73-yd drive to get on the scoreboard and went up 28-14.

Tulane brought the score within seven, as it put the only points on the board in the fourth. Prattt found senior wide receiver Jaetavian Toles for a 23-yard touchdown pitch and catch.
The Green Wave were unable to even the score late in the fourth quarter despite recovering their second on-side kick of the season.

The Blazers outgained the Green Wave 433 to 395.

Tulane returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 2, as it travels to Greenville to take on East Carolina. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN+.
