NEW ORLEANS – Senior Thakarius Keyes of the Tulane University football team was selected to participate in the 95th East-West Shrine Bowl in St. Petersburg, Florida. The bowl will be played at Tropicana Field on Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. CT.

Keyes earned a spot of the team thanks to a 2019 season that has seen him total 35 tackles, five pass break-up and one interception. As a junior in 2018, Keyes tallied 38 tackles, 12 passes defensed and one interception.

The East-West Shrine Bowl is the longest running college all-star football game in the nation. The East-West Shrine Bowl is an important part of America’s football tradition, giving top college players a chance to showcase their talents to NFL scouts and a national television audience.

Since 1925, the East-West Shrine Bowl has benefited Shriners Hospitals for Children and its mission to provide advanced care for children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate, regardless of the families’ ability to pay for services.

Players and coaches visit a local Shriners Hospitals for Children during game week to meet the patients and gain a greater understanding of the importance of the game. During the inspirational and humbling visit, the teams experience a day they will never forget. Whether dancing to music, playing games or simply sharing stories with one another, the instant friendships that form between the patients and players are a testament to our motto of being more than just a game.

Tulane will host UCF on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Yulman Stadium. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
