Tulane’s Terren Encalade named LSWA Offensive Player of the Week
NEW ORLEANS – Redshirt junior wide receiver Terren Encalade was named the Louisiana Sportswriters Association’s Offensive Player of the Week after totaling 186 receiving yards and scoring the winning touchdown in a 20-17 victory over Houston last week, the organization announced Tuesday.
Encalade posted a career performance in Tulane’s victory over Houston on Senior Day, hauling in career highs of eight receptions and 186 yards. He made clutch catches throughout the game, including a 64-yard strike to out the Green Wave ahead, 20-17. He took the pass from junior quarterback Jonathan Banks near midfield and motored past two Houston defenders on his way across the goal line.
The Belle Chasse, La., native also had a crucial 11-yard reception on Tulane’s final drive with the Green Wave clinging to three-point lead in the waning minutes of the game. The catch gave Tulane a first down and allowed the Green Wave to go into victory formation for the final three plays to seal the win.
Encalade is the third Tulane player to earn an LSWA weekly award this season. Banks was named the LSWA Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 5, and senior running back Dontrell Hilliard earned the award on Oct. 10.
The Green Wave close out the regular season at SMU Saturday in Dallas. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. on CBS Sports Network.
