Sophomore running back named to The American and Paul Hornung Award weekly honor roll

NEW ORLEANS – Sophomore running back Amare Jones was recognized Monday by the American Athletic Conference and the Paul Hornung Award, as he was named to the weekly honor roll by both organizations.

Jones received the weekly recognition following a breakout performance this past Saturday on the road at Army where he helped guide the Green Wave to a 42-33 win over the Black Knights.

The Frisco, Texas, native did a little bit of everything against Army, as he touched the ball 19 times for a career high 249 all-purpose yards. Jones rushed for 65 yards, had a career high 104 yards receiving and had 80 kickoff return yards.

In addition, Jones accounted for a pair of touchdown (one rushing and one receiving).

Jones becomes the third Tulane individual this season to be honored by The American. Earlier this season, Justin McMillan (Sept. 2) and Jalen McCleskey (Sept. 23) were both named offensive players of the week. Jones’ selection to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll marked the first time this season he was named to the weekly list.

The Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse, now in its 10th season, is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung. The winner and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award dinner at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville on March 4, 2020.

Tulane returns to action this Saturday, as it plays host to Connecticut inside Yulman Stadium at 2:45 p.m. (CT). Tickets for the game can be purchased for as low as $5 dollars by clicking here. The game can be seen live on ESPNU or heard live on the radio by tuning into Sports 1280 New Orleans.
