Tulane tops LSU, 84-74, in exhibition basketball

NEW ORLEANS – Five Green Wave players scored in double-figures en route to an 84-74 victory in a hurricane relief charity exhibition Tuesday evening at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.

Cameron Reynolds and Jordan Cornish scored 17 points apiece and grabbed nine rebounds, respectively, while Samir Sehic added 16 points and six boards off the bench. Colin Slater added 11 points and four assists, while Caleb Daniels tacked on 11 points as a reserve.

Tulane shot 32-for-59 (.542) overall, 7-for-14 (.500) from 3-point range and 13-for-19 (.684) at the free throw line, outscoring LSU’s bench, 30-7. The Green Wave held the Tigers to 28-for-77 (.364) shooting on the night, including 4-for-24 (.167) beyond the arc. LSU owned a 42-34 scoring advantage in the paint and a 12-2 edge in second chance points.

The first half was a tight affair until Tulane pulled in front by double digits, 35-23, with 2:13 remaining. LSU cut the deficit to eight as the Green Wave took a 37-29 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

Tulane shot 7 of 11 from the field to start the second half and pushed its lead to 52-42 at the 11:59 mark. The Tigers were able to pull within three, 63-60, with five minutes left, but drew no closer as the Green Wave pushed forward by shooting 56 percent in the final 20 minutes to close out the 10-point victory.

LSU was led by Duop Reath’s game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds, as Wayde Sims contributed 10 points and 11 boards. Skylar Mays scored 18 of his 19 points in the second half.

Tulane will play one last exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 2 following the conclusion of the women’s basketball game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
