First pitch is set for Noon at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University baseball team is set for the first of two exhibition games this fall, as it welcomes Lamar University to Greer Field at Turchin Stadium on Saturday.

Tulane and Lamar will take part in 18 innings of action with the first pitch set for Noon. The 18-inning contest is open to the public and free of charge.

“We are excited for Saturday’s contest versus a very good Lamar team!” head coach Travis Jewett said. “Our guys have been investing extremely well this Fall to not only prepare for this moment but for the upcoming season that lies ahead. Our entire staff looks forward to watching the boys not only compete, but to compete well.”

The Green Wave finished the 2021 campaign with a 31-24 mark and a 17-10 record in American Athletic Conference play – the nation’s No. 5-ranked RPI league. Following the regular season, Tulane advanced to the semifinals of the AAC tournament. In addition, Tulane reeled off 12 straight wins – the most in over 20 years.

Following the season, Tulane placed four players on the all-conference team, including freshman Bennett Lee, who was named AAC Newcomer Position Player of the Year. Lee finished the year with a team-best .440 batting average.

In addition to Lee, the Green Wave also welcome back return Chase Engelhard (.299), Jacob LaPrairie (.285) and Jared Hart (.277), as they ranked third, fourth and fifth on the team in batting, respectively.

Earlier this fall, Tulane announced the addition of 24 members to its 2021 recruiting class.

Lamar finished the 2021 campaign with a 25-23 mark. Will Davis, who is in his seventh season, is the head coach of the Cardinals. The Cardinals come into the fall after landing the nation’s 11th-best junior college class. Lamar’s 2021 leading hitter Ben MacNaughton, who finished the year with a .336 average, also returns.
