Tulane’s quest for three bowl victories in as many seasons will take place shorthanded.

Defensive end leader Patrick Johnson will not play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, coach Willie Fritz said Monday morning.

Johnson’s father died unexpectedly earlier this month, and the all-time Green Wave sacks leader missed all of the team’s bowl practices. Fritz said Johnson, a senior, will not travel with the team.

Fritz said leading receiver Duece Watts also missed all of the bowl practices with an unspecified injury. It will be a game-time decision whether Watts plays for the 6-5 Green Wave.

Tulane plays Nevada at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on ESPN.
