Tulane linebacker Dorian Williams named to Bednarik Award Watch List

South Carolina native led the team in tackles in 2020

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University sophomore linebacker Dorian Williams was named to the 2021 Chuck Bednarik Preseason Award Watch List on Monday by the Maxwell Football Club.

Williams received the honor after he led the American Athletic Conference with 98 total tackles, averaging 8.2 per game. He was also second in the nation in tackles for loss at 16.5. Following the 2020 season, Williams was named to the All-AAC Second Team.

The Chuck Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995 and is named in honor of Chuck Bednarik, a former standout at the University of Pennsylvania and with the Philadelphia Eagles. Bednarik is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame’s Class of ’69 and the NFL Hall of Fame’s Class of ’67.

Tulane opens the 2021 season against Oklahoma, with kickoff scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 4. The game will be aired nationally on ABC. The Green Wave return to action following an appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl – the team’s third consecutive bowl appearance.
