Junior wide receiver has a team-best 544 yards receiving through six games

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University football junior wide receiver Darnell Mooney was added to the watch list for the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation’s 2018 Biletnikoff Award today.

Mooney earned a spot on the watch list after posting an incredible start to the 2018 season. Through six games, Mooney has posted team highs in receptions (30), yards (544) and touchdown receptions (5).

He has already surpassed his 2017 season total in receptions and touchdowns. Mooney will enter week eight of the season just 56 yards shy of surpassing his receiving total from a year ago.

The Gadsden, Alabama, native leads the American Athletic Conference in receiving yards per game (90.7). His five receiving touchdowns rank third in the league. In addition, Mooney ranks among the top 25 nationally in receiving yards and receiving yards per game.

Mooney is the second Tulane receiver to be named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list. Earlier this year, teammate Terren Encalade was named to the watch list.

The Biletnikoff Award, in its 25th year, recognizes college football’s outstanding receiver of the season at any position. It is not a career award. Any player who catches a pass, regardless of position, is eligible for the award. Consequently, tight ends, slot receivers and backs, inside receivers, wide receivers, split ends, and running backs are eligible for the award.

The award recipient is selected by the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers. Foundation trustees do not vote and have never voted. For a list of voters, please see BiletnikoffAward.com/voters.

The 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on Dec. 6, 2018, on The Home Depot College Football Awards presented by Gildan to be broadcast 7:00 – 9:00pm (EST) on ESPN. College and pro football hall of famer Fred Biletnikoff will announce the 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner on the show.

The winner will be presented the Biletnikoff Award trophy by college and pro football hall of famer Fred Biletnikoff and keynoter and 1993 Lombardi Award and Jim Parker Award winner Aaron Taylor before 550 patrons at the Biletnikoff Award Banquet at the University Center Club at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Saturday, February 16, 2019.
