Tulane hires Eddie Smith as baseball assistant
Tulane coach Travis Jewett reached into his pedigree for his latest staff hire.
Eddie Smith, the head coach at Lower Columbia College in Longview, Washington, is the Green Wave’s new hitting coach and lead recruiter. Tulane has yet to make an announcement, but LCC has announced Smith’s departure.
In four seasons at Lower Columbia, the 33-year-old Smith had a 146-49 career record, won two conference championships and was the American Baseball Coaches Association’s national coach of the year for the Pacific Association Division in 2015. Smith has experience in Division I baseball, serving on staffs at Notre Dame, Virginia and Santa Clara.
Jewett played at LCC, as did the coach who Smith is replacing at Tulane, Billy Jones, who left the program last month.
According to the Longview Daily News, Smith began his new post on Monday.
