NEW ORLEANS – Coming off his performance in Tulane football’s 31-24 overtime victory at ECU, senior linebacker Rae Juan Marbley has been named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the week by the conference office and College Sports Madness.

Marbley totaled 12 tackles in the game and came up big when the Green Wave needed it most. He was credited with three tackles on ECU’s overtime drive that was stopped short of the goal line. The Destrehan, La., native was in on the tackle of ECU’s Hussein Howe for no gain with redshirt junior defensive end Robert Kennedy on the third play of the Pirates’ drive. Two plays later on first and goal from the three-yard line, Marbley stopped Howe for a one-yard gain. Two plays later, he stopped Devin Anderson for a one-yard gain on third and goal from the two-yard line. Marbley added a personal single-game best 2.0 tackles for loss to go along with two quarterback hurries in Tulane’s first-ever win at ECU.

On the season, Marbley leads the Wave with 80 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and three quarterback hurries. His two sacks and one pass breakup this season are the firsts of his career.

Tulane plays its final home game of 2017 on Saturday, as the Green Wave host Houston for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. on ESPNews.
