ORLANDO – The Tulane University baseball team (26-16-1, 8-5) suffered a 2-1 loss Friday night in the opening game of its series with UCF (25-16, 9-4).

Tulane collected three hits and left three on the bases. The kryptonite for the Olive and Blue came in the form of two errors in the bottom of the seventh.

Tulane scored its lone run in the second off an RBI ground out from Trevor Minder to score Brady Marget who doubled to lead off the inning.

The bats came to a halt when both teams only managed two base runners combined through the next five innings. The Knights scored both runs in the bottom of the seventh off two errors from the Tulane defense making them all unearned.

Tulane threatened to score in the top of the ninth when Luis Aviles hit a one-out double. Aviles would be stranded on a flyout and a strike to end the game.

Only three men in Olive and Blue picked up hits in the first go with UCF, Marget, Engelhard and Aviles.

Left-hander Dylan Carmouche suffered the loss and dropped to 5-2 on the year after he worked 7.0 innings, struck out six and gave up two runs.

UCF’s Ben Vespi picked up the win for the Knights after he went a career-high 7.0 innings and struck out seven batters.
