Tulane Football Practice

NEW ORLEANS – After taking a day off from practice on Sunday, Tulane football was back out on the turf at Yulman Stadium for its seventh preseason workout Monday morning.

The Green Wave practiced outside at Yulman Stadium for the first time since Wednesday. Storms in the area forced the Wave indoors at the New Orleans Saints facility on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

While the transition back to the heat and humidity of an outdoor practice field presented its challenges on Monday, head coach Willie Fritz is pleased with the progress of the team as the Green Wave begin their second week of preseason camp. The coaching staff is starting to round out the depth chart, while competition remains at many of the positions on the field in Week 2 of preseason workouts.

“We all know what we’re doing and understand the philosophies, and I think we’re more talented,” Fritz said of his second Tulane team. “I told the players I’m going to play guys based on performance and practice, rather than who is the first guy in line. We’re a lot deeper at most positions, and that aides in the competition.”

During team drills, junior college transfer wide receiver Jabril Clewis hauled in a pass while moving toward the sideline from sophomore quarterback Johnathan Brantley. Later in the team session, junior wide receiver Devin Glenn caught a pass downfield near the goal line from freshman quarterback Dane Ledford.

The Green Wave are set to practice Tuesday morning at the New Orleans Saints facility in Metairie, as part of the regular camp schedule, before returning to Yulman Stadium on Wednesday. Practices are closed to the public.
