Tulane Athletics welcomes Michael Sandoz as Team Dietitian

Sandoz joins departmental staff following five years at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University athletics announced today the addition of Michael Sandoz as the department’s first dietitian.

In his new capacity, Sandoz will counsel Tulane student-athletes on daily nutrition practices to improve performance and health. Additionally, Sandoz will deliver the latest scientific nutritional evidence, track nutrition services and provide practical nutrition recommendations, so that Green Wave student-athletes can compete at the highest levels.

“Enhancing our student-athlete’s nutritional habits is paramount for success both on and off the field of competition,” director of athletics Troy Dannen said. “I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to add Michael to our staff, as I know he will be a tremendous resource for our student-athletes, coaches and staff members.”

Mike SandozA registered dietitian from Mandeville, Louisiana who graduated from Louisiana State University with a B.S. in nutritional sciences, he earned his master’s degree in exercise and Nutrition Science from Lipscomb University in 2014.

In addition to his work with the athletics department, Sandoz also serves in the role of registered dietitian for the Center for Sport at Tulane University, working with former professional athletes and current student-athletes.

Prior to joining the team at the Tulane Center for Sport, where he worked as an outpatient dietitian for five years at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, Louisiana.
